A Lay Cistercian Looks at Spiritual Reality
This is a continuation of a previous set of readings about my interactions with the world around me (the physical universe), added to my assimilation of what is meaningful (the mental universe), all encapsulated by the energy to move to my deepest evolution and to sustain myself beyond the constrictions of matter and time (the spiritual universe).
I used to think that the greatest energy comes from Stephenson 2-18, that star that would incinerate me in less than nanoseconds. That is powerful. Yet, having awakened to a world where I do exist and not consumed by our Sun, much less Stephenson 2-18, I realized there is a different power, one not of physical energy, but one that can nourish me as I try to find meaning and solve the three longings of my heart, as yet, not fully realized: a. Knowledge that leads me to the deepest level of being human; b. How to use this Knowledge to unleash the power of humanity at my deepest level, a power called love; and finally, using this profound Knowledge and love, to open the six locks that keep me from my destiny at the deepest level of my evolution, one accessed only by absolute truth, absolute love, and absolute power, absolutely. Life is the interaction in each age, with each encounter with matter and living things (animal and human) to discover be aware of the movement of matter, reason, that leads to my taking the step toward being all that my human nature intended, to live in this lifetime to gather Knowledge, love, and truths with which I will decorate the mansion that God has prepared for me in Heaven forever. Unlike Stephenson 2-18, with all its colossal energy, with human reasoning and the freedom to tell God to “take this job and shove it,” this energy creates the harmonics of resonance with the dissonance of human nature, animal nature, and physical nature, all vibrating when I abandon myself and place myself in the presence of Christ, allowing me to be an adopted son (daughter) of the Father and heir to kingdom come.
WHO SETS BOUNDARIES FOR MATTER AND ITS EVOLUTION, AND WHAT ARE ITS CHARACTERISTICS?
The GENESIS PRINCIPLE: I am romancing some ideas about the notion that God does not live in matter or time as we define them. What God is, says St. Thomas Aquinas, is impossible for us to know directly because we don’t speak to God. Even if we did, humans would need to learn how to speak within the constraints of human nature and receive messages as God does. Impossible, says St. Thomas in his Summa Theologica, but what we can do is look at human experiences and qualities and deduce from that who we are. If we are made in the image and likeness of God, then I must tease out what God tries to tell me by looking at nature, the history of evolutionary growth in matter and mind, and add to that, the spiritual universe, where Jesus, both God and Human, is the buffer, the transformer, the translator, the bridge builder (Pontifex Maximus). The Genesis Principle is the period from Alpha to the Incarnation of Christ. I have attached the Teilhard Map to help you see what I see as I look at the evolution of the physical and mental worlds, all of this so that I can know what Jesus tells me to do, by being aware that I am an adopted son or daughter of the Father. The Movement of Complexity and Consciousness of God begins with Alpha, then continues with life on earth, and then reason and free will or choice of humans, to be able to make the correct choice that allows each person to evolve beyond matter and mind to that of being an adopted son or daughter of the Father and heir to the kingdom of Heaven in Heaven.https://thecenterforcontemplativepractice.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/image-3.png.

As humanity absorbs the movement of individuals, so too do individuals use their unique life experiences, along with the Knowledge, Love, and Truth from the Divine Nature, by being near the source of energy. “Lord, I am not worthy that you should come under my roof, say but the word and my soul will be healed.”
When I apply the concept of boundaries to creation, evolution, movement from complexity and consciousness to more than it was moments before, it is (existere), I realize that everything is movement, not just as the measurement of the distance in terms of miles, but also looking at matter itself, static in its nature, yet always becoming more and more. This is also a dimension of time, static time, for lack of a better description, but movement. This notion of movement is important for boundaries because, like the physical and mental universes of what is real, everything moves. I add the notion of Teilhard de Chardin (map above) that this movement, no matter the distance, moves not in a geographical direction but seeks resolution of the activity that created it in the first place. So who or what created all that is? For me, this is a process of discovering, not who God is, but who I am and what I observe as the effects of being in the presence of Christ and just waiting, with an ACTIO of “Doing What He Tells You.”
God, or pure Being, created all that is by setting boundaries on creation, on matter. God, who has no boundaries, set boundaries for all matter (Physical Universe). This is the ground of our existence, the boundaries where, to use a cosmological analogy, humanity comes from star stuff.
God has no boundaries, a concept ludicrous to any rational thinker that lacks the assumptions of the radical nature of the divine, but one that is the opposite of the physical and mental universes. God exists (my human term) without boundaries, fueled by pure Knowledge, pure love, and producing pure truth. It is pure because being itself is 100% of who it is, no boundaries to cause limitations, as is the case for all matter and mind. “I am the one who is,” God tells Moses on Mt. Sinai.
Hold onto that thought that God, who is without borders, created borders or boundaries for all of matter, all mind, all humanity for a reason. If the Genesis Principle is creation (not static but ongoing movement as the template of how humans should operate), then the next paradigm shift, the Christ Principle, takes that evolution or movement to direct it towards restoring equilibrium to the natural flow of all natures to seek their own level of what they are.
