DIGGING FOR HEAVENLY GOLD: THE PRESENCE OF LOVE IN THREE UNIVERSES AND ITS IMPLICATIONS FOR MY CATHOLIC CHURCH.

THE MOVEMENT WITHIN ALPHA AND OMEGA THAT LINKS ME TO THE THREE UNIVERSES OF ONE REALITY–LOVE

In my spiritual odessy, one that is uniquely mine, and based solely on those lessons learned from making many grevious mistakes and false assumptions about what is love, I am just beginning to be aware that love is not just a theoretical virtue that is just beyond the grasp of my reach, but one that permeates the very fabric of three universes (physical, mental, and spiritual) that is one my one reality.

In the context of Teilhard de Chardin’s map (unattributed), I view life as a dynamic progression with pre-programmed DNA interwoven into each composition of matter, from birth to its intended fulfillment according to the laws that govern each of these three universes.

Figure 1. Teilhard’s Map of the Movement of All Reality.

As one who wakes up for 85+ years (so far) in this river of movement, I find myself longing for the harmony that comes from being fully what my human nature intended. I am not there yet, nor will I be with mere human energy. With this human energy, I can be what my nature has evolved into so far. My longing for that next step demands that I use my reason and freedom to choose what is right or wrong for me to reach that seemingly unattainable next step in my humanity. I need an energy outside of my humanity to propel (or compel) me to a status beyond mere matter, although I could not reach it without the booster rockets of the physical universe and the mental universe. The next level of my evolution, as shown on this Teilhard Map, demands I give up all I think I know about what is around me (abandonment of my false self) to step out in front of my self (existere or existential grasp at what is just beyond my reach) in the hope that this step leads me to the object of my quest, to know at the deepest level of my humanity, to love at that same level of intense existence, and to know and love the truth, which is beyond my capability or capacity with just physical and mental universe energy.

Christ is the way that leads to the truth from the Holy Spirit, so that I alone (and you alone) can lead a life that fulfills what our human nature all along, I term this The Christ Principle, because it both clarifies what is lacking in my evolutionary process but also gives resonance and harmony to that unnerving void in my inner consioucness that I have not reached my intended purpose.

The Church is the living embodiment of Christ, composed of all those who are sinners and in need of being adopted sons and daughters of the Father, who seek to follow a way that is characterized by the cross, a sign that to live as a Catholic in each age, we must take from that age in which we find ourselves and do the opposite of what the world tells us to do. This dual citizenship, using our humanity to move to a deeper level of knowledge, love, and truth, seems to be contrary to everything we experience, until we apply the Christ Principle and follow the way of the cross, the sign of contradiction. “If you want to gain your life, you must lose it.”

Love, as we try to discover it while we live, can also have these two dimensions of citizen of the earth and citizen of the earth plus being an adopted son or daughter as a deeper expression of what a human is.

Human love is the strongest emotion we have, one inherited by all that is, permeating non-organic matter, organic matter, and then culminating in human love. The problem comes from a movement of all humanity to be more than just an animal, procreating and hostage to how we use this most potent and strongest of urges. But does all this movement of complexity and consciousness of humanity simply end up with the same purpose as animals, the urge to propagate without knowing why and where?

God became one of our nature to show us the way of the cross, that contradiction that is folly for the Gentiles and a stumbling block for the Jews. Jesus is the God of boundaries, telling us and showing us, as a good Rabbi, how to use these conflicting urges and not make choices that do not lead to that next step in our evolution, love that linked with the love that Christ had for us and which we must therefore exhibit to others in the form of mercy and forgiving others as we wish to be forgiven.

Love in the spiritual universe (here on earth, where we learn what love is, using the energy of the Holy Spirit to “Have in us the mind of Christ Jesus,”) is limited to what my new awareness of reality tells me is good and not bad for me (sin). I must continuously seek to move from my false self (humanity without Jesus) to that of one of being aware that I am an adopted son (daughter) of the Father and then give God the honor and glory due His name. I am totally dependent upon the power of the Holy Spirit to allow me to sit next to Christ in that upper room of my inner self and wait to be told what to do.

The love of adoption allows all of us to love God not as gods, but with the deepest level of our humanity can attain while we are alive. As with everything I do as it applies to the spiritual level of my humanity, I must dig for heavenly gold as I am and where I am each day. This process is making new wine skins to hold the new wine Christ shares with me so that I can take those skins to heaven with me after I die and enjoy the meaning of knowledge, love, and the truth.

Here are some quotes that I have found inspiring quotes by Teilhard de Chardin, taken from http://www.azquotes.com.

“Someday, after mastering the winds, the waves, the tides and gravity, we shall harness for God the energies of love, and then, for a second time in the history of the world, man will have discovered fire.” ~ Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

“Remain true to yourself, but move ever upward toward greater consciousness and greater love! At the summit, you will find yourselves united with all those who, from every direction, have made the same ascent. For everything that rises must converge.” ~ Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

“Love is the most universal, the most tremendous, and the most mystical of cosmic forces. Love is the primal and universal psychic energy. Love is a sacred reserve of energy; it is like the blood of spiritual evolution.” ~ Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

“The age of nations has passed. Now, unless we wish to perish, we must shake off our old prejudices and build the Earth. The more scientifically I regard the world, the less can I see any possible biological future for it except in the active consciousness of its unity.” ~ Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

“Matter is spirit moving slowly enough to be seen.” ~ Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

“Love alone is capable of uniting living beings in such a way as to complete and fulfill them, for it alone takes them and joins them by what is deepest in themselves.” ~ Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

“Today, something is happening to the whole structure of human consciousness. A fresh kind of life is starting. Driven by the forces of love, the fragments of the world are seeking each other, so that the world may come into being.” ~ Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

“Our duty, as men and women, is to proceed as if limits to our ability did not exist. We are collaborators in creation.” ~ Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
