YOUR CATHOLIC HERITAGE: The word, “CATHOLIC”

I prefer to be called Catholic rather than Christian, although both are true. Catholic is one of the four marks of the authentic Church to handed down for us to do the way, the truth, and the life, within the lifetime of each of the Popes. If you have wondered, as I have, where the word ‘Catholic’ comes from, I have a source for you to investigate if this interests you.

The first usage of the word, CATHOLIC is from the writings of St. Ignatius of Antioch (c. 100 AD) to the Smyrnaeans, in Chapter 8. Look it up and appreciate the whole letter. I encourage you to look up the ancient writers to see how Jesus impacted their lives in the blossoming Church.
