A Lay Cistercian Looks at Spiritual Reality
Before I attempt to lay out my latest project, read this: https://www.ewtn.com/catholicism/library/message-from-our-lady–akita-japan-5167
This concept of repentance for the sins of others, and mostly my own, is my new challenge until I die. Repentance for sin is about making up for those sins that have caused God pain (Yes, I know God does not feel pain or need my prayers in any way). I ask for God’s mercy on my thoughtlessness and choices that led to the deadly sins described in Galatians 5.
I have adopted the emphasis of Our Lady of Akita, focusing on my own reparation for sins, by using only the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Most Holy Rosary. The theme of reparation for my sins is central to my Lay Cistercian life, as it is now. I need to emphasize that my center, Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior, is the purpose of my prayer, not the Blessed Mother. She is the mediatrix, my intercessor with Christ in this approach. She opens the window so that I can focus on being present with Christ to the extent my humanity will permit it.
This blog has as its purpose to share with you what I do (or try to do) as a Lay Cistercian member of Our Lady of the Holy Spirit, Conyers, GA, http://www.trappist.net. These practices I have created and strive to maintain as well as possible for a broken-down, old temple of the Holy Spirit.
My suggestion: Create a plan of action for your spiritual life. For example, begin slowly by exercising your spiritual muscles by receiving Chapter 4 of the Rule of Benedict.
I weave in my personal emphases on repentance and reparation for my sins by reciting the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary.
