A PRIVATE RETREAT FOR CATHOLICS, PROTESTANTS, JEWS, MUSLIMS, ATHEISTS, AGNOSTICS, POLITICIANS, OR NONE OF THE ABOVE.

The context of this private retreat must be simplicity itself, requiring that we sit down in silence and solitude in that upper room of our inner self, and just wait. It is not for the faint of heart. Only those who seek to grow in the complexity and consciousness of their humanity need apply.

What follows is an outline of such a retreat, done privately.

OPENING PRAYER OF ST. CHARLES DE FOUCAULD

Father,

I abandon myself into your hands;
do with me what you will.

Whatever you may do,
I thank you.

I am ready for all, I accept all.
Let only your will be done in me,
and in all your creatures.
I wish no more than this, O Lord.

Into your hands I commend my soul;
I offer it to you
with all the love of my heart,
for I love you, Lord,
and so need to give myself,
to surrender myself into your hands,
without reserve,
and with boundless confidence,
for you are my Father.

THE DIVINE EQUATION

Answer these six questions altogether or once a day. It took me a lifetime, but these are six questions that do not tell who God is but rather who I am becoming, using God’s help (Faith, Love, Service) to begin to believe that Jesus is Lord. Write down what the HS reveals to you to share with others. 

THE DIVINE EQUATION is a series of six questions I have had to address in my lifetime to move to that deeper level with Christ. These questions do not prove that God exists, but rather, describe how I exist to move to that next level of my humanity, one at the deepest part of my being.

Just go to that upper room of your inner self and wait for the Holy Spirit. Wait for at least fifteen to thirty minutes after you read the question before you respond.

1. What is the purpose of life?

2. What is your purpose of life within that purpose of life?

3. What does reality look like right now?

4. How does it all fit together?

5. How do I love fiercely with all my mind and heart?

6. I know that I am going to die, now what?

Use these questions as lingering thoughts as you sit in the upper room of your inner self, waiting for a reply.
